Italian Greyhounds Available For Adoption

Please note: There are dogs in rescue that are not shown on this site. Most dogs that come into the program are placed in approved homes without ever getting pictured here. If you are interested in a rescue dog, you should put in an application with your local rep and then follow up with him/her. You must complete this application prior to any contact with the rescue reps. Please do not waste your time e-mailing or calling if you have not filled out this application as we need it for reference when speaking with you. Filling it out will give you an opportunity to hear about dogs before they are even featured here.

NOTE ON HOUSEBREAKING: When we say an IG is "housetrained" or doing well that means we have babygates, use a crate, often don't have carpet and manage 24/7..please read about the breed. Housetraining is the #1 problem!

BUDDY

Buddy is a four year old red and white Italian Greyhound. He is very handsome, and one of the sweetest boys you will ever meet. Buddy has the funniest ears, they are usually folded forward or to one side, giving him a unique look. He lost part of his tail due to injury, but wags it constantly. Buddy also has a hip injury that has been repaired as well as it can be and has no problem getting around or running in the yard. He is a very happy boy, and will make you smile when you look at him. He is energetic and loves to play, or simply be with his person doing whatever they are doing or snuggling with his foster sister. Buddy loves, loves, loves toys! He entertains himself by emptying the toy box and finding the best ones at the bottom. He loves to play tug-of-war with his person or his foster brother. Buddy likes other dogs, they seem to give him confidence. He would do best in a home with at least one other dog similar in size, male or female. He is about 12 lbs. Buddy does have some trust issues. He is very wary of hands, sudden movements, new people and some men. He is still not fond of being picked up, but he is getting better about it. For these reasons, Buddy prefers to live in a calm, adult only home. Once he gets to know his person, he will be their best friend. His adoptive home must be willing to be patient, accept Buddy for the dog that he is and his personality, and allow him to earn your trust. In foster care, he has gone from anyone being unable to touch him to loving ear scratches, belly rubs and sleeping in the people bed. Buddy knows commands such as come here and sit. He is a good listener and may benefit from dog training classes. He is very good in the house and will tell you when he has to go outside. He needs to go out regularly, because he sometimes loses some bladder control if he has to wait too long, possibly related to his hip injury. He is not officially pee-pad trained, but has used one successfully, so he could possibly be indoor trained if his new family would like to do that. Buddy is usually quiet, although he does bark sometimes when he is excited to show that he is happy. Buddy has not had the life he deserves. His resilience is inspiring. If you want a friend for life, and are willing to work with him, Buddy is your dog. He should be considered a special needs pet, so serious inquiries only please. Buddy is fostering in the Chicago area. If you would like to learn more about Buddy, please contact Cari at igcitng@sbcglobal.net

VIOLET

Violet is a 5-year old blue and white IG who was rescued from a puppy mill. Read her Blog (www.violetsdiary.blogspot.com) to find out just how far she has come! Violet is enjoying being an iggy more and more each day. She loves to play with her foster brothers, chew on rawhides, go for walks and lay in the sun. She is a curious girl who has no fear of other dogs or people. Her potty habits are very good, she walks well on a leash and crates well at night and for short periods during the day. She is a very sweet girl who snuggles into you when she's held. She is still quite hand shy and doesn't like being reached for, but we are confident that will subside with time and patience. Violet's left front leg had been broken at some point and did not heal properly. The leg is a little bowed and she walks on the heel of the foot, but it doesn't seem to bother her at all. Violet is up-to-date on shots, spayed, has had a dental and is ready for her forever home. She would do best with at least one other small dog and preferably a fenced yard. Violet will only be adopted in Michigan and surrounding states. For more information on Violet, please contact l_clouthier@yahoo.com

BLUE

Located in Indianapolis, Blue is a very sweet and kind, has downy soft blue-fawn fur, is approximately 16” tall and about 17 lbs. At first Blue can be a bit apprehensive towards new situations, however he enjoys going for walks, and playing fetch with his toys. Blue is extremely smart and is responding to training very quickly, has already learned to sit for treats. When he was turned into the shelter by his previous owner it was reported his age to be 10. At his medical exam, the doctor determined Blue is only about 2-4 years old. He is currently on medication for an infection, it was discovered he had a bee-bee in his tail, the tail appears to be broken and he also possibly has a broken/cracked rib. For a dog that was most likely mistreated, he is responding well with the care and attention he is receiving in his foster home. Blue would do well in a home that would provide him all the love and devotion he so much deserves and possibly another quiet pet as a companion. If you would like further information, please contact Linda at donatoig@yahoo.com

KIA

Kia is approx 1-2 yrs old. teeny at about 7 pounds and a gorgeous red fawn and white. This picture does not capture the true beauty of her. This girl was rescued from a puppymill and is definitely working hard at making up for lost time. Kia loves to run and play. She is like a little racehorse so will need a fenced yard. Kia is very playful and mischevious and will play with anything - for example when foster mom was planting flowers, Kia "stole" a nearly empty bag of peat moss and ran off across the yard with it. If it can be thought of Kia will think of it and try it. Kia loves to be held and loves to give kisses. She gets along fine with the other IGs and likes to play with them, but she can also entertains herself. Kia is leashtrained, crate trained and doing pretty good with her potty but as with all IGs needs monitoring. Kia was in contact with cats for a few hours and ignored them but is not living with cats at the present. Kia needs a home with a fenced yard because she loves to run and she would like another small very playful little dog to play with. Kia will be adopted in state of Indiana and bordering states. For more info contact Kim at topironhorse2000@hotmail.com

RINGO

Ringo is a 7 month old fawn male who will be larger in size . Ringo came in with ringworm which is gone and his fur is growing back in and that is why you still can see the black rings in the picture. Ringo is rambunctious and very energetic. He loves to run and play and wrestle with the other iggy kids in the home. He is leash trained, crate trained and has good potty habits. Ringo is loving and enjoys his humans and other dogs. Ringo needs a fenced yard, and another small dog to play with. He will be adopted in the state of Indiana or bordering states. For more info contact Kim at topironhorse2000@hotmail.com

BEAN

Bean is a beautiful 7 month old male ig. Bean is a larger ig boy who is very very energetic. He wants to run and play all the time. Bean loves all humans, other dogs and cats. He doesn't realize he isn't a big dog. Bean crates, walks on a leash and has pretty good potty habits. Bean needs a fenced yard, and another small dog who can match his high energy level. He will be adopted in state of Indiana and/or bordering states. For more info contact Kim at topironhorse2000@hotmail.com

PIXIE

PIXIE is a two year old petite pretty fawn and white girl. She is sweet and loving, but can be very stubborn (like many ig girls!). Pixie came into rescue needing multiple surgeries on her rear legs. She is now finishing her recuperation from the last surgery and is ready for her new home. Her back legs look a little different after all the surgeries to repair a dislocated hip and two bad patellas. In her old age she may have some problems with arthritis, so her adopters should be dedicated to supplementing her with glucosamine to promote joint health. Pixie loves to be spoiled and to be held, and to play with other IGs her size. She plays hard and races thorough the house. Pixie does NOT like small children AT ALL! She would do very well in an adult-only home that will pamper her and provide her with a fenced yard and an energetic IG playmate to chase and romp with. Pixie is located in mid Indiana and will be adopted in-state or to a bordering state only. For more info and more pix, email Kim at topironhorse2000@hotmil.com

TAYLOR

Taylor is a ten yr old female iggy girl who was living a happy diva life until tragedy struck. Taylor's owner unexpectedly passed away at home and no one found Taylor or her owner for 9 days. Taylor has suffered a traumatic loss and having her world turned upside down. A kind person rescued her and called IG rescue to take her in. With all that has happened to her Taylor is working hard to adjust to her new life. She has proven to be very sweet, cuddly and a total lap dog. Its obvious that her owner doted on her and spoiled her. She would love to go everywhere her new family goes. She likes to shadow her foster mom. Taylor is pee pad and outdoor potty trained. She is crate trained and leash trained. Taylor has a habit of going and getting her leash and taking it to bed with her. Her foster mom thinks she is waiting for her owner and wants to be prepared. Even though its been a few weeks since the tragedy Taylor is still a bit shy and nervous but is adjusting more and more everyday. Taylor's idea of what she would like in a new home is maybe an older person or persons. A quiet home where she can be the spoiled iggy girl and someone who is around alot to make sure that happens. Taylor has a lot of love to give and will need someone with a bit of patience until she overcomes the tragedy she suffered. Taylor also still needs to regain about 3 pounds of the weight she lost during the 9 days she was alone. If you have a place in your heart for a senior gal with a lot of love to give then Taylor is the girl for you. Taylor is located in northern Indiana and will be adopted in state of or bordering states. For more info contact Kim at topironhorse2000@hotmail.com
